The general objective of this course is to enable you to become effective teachers of literacy, to learn to teach reading and writing, speaking and listening, using an integrated, active, developmental approach to learning and teaching, such that all children in your class can learn to become effective readers and writers.

For each class meeting students have a reading assignment to complete. Often they have a video viewing assignment as well. In addition, there are several assignments to complete over the semester. One major goal we have is for them to become excellent observers of teachers, children and classrooms. In each semester of the class they are asked to complete an observation journal entry. In the fall we focus this observation on reading instruction and in the spring we focus on writing instruction for this assignment.

Assignments that drew on what we learned from observing the quest sites and other classroom videos.
