Engaging Students in Literature - Christine Cziko - UC Berkeley

Methods for Teaching English in the Secondary School

Goals: This semester we will continue to explore the skills and knowledge needed for teaching secondary English in today's diverse classrooms. We will discuss and implement "best" pedagogical practices in an attempt to create well functioning communities composed of learners with diverse interests and from diverse backgrounds. We will present effective approaches to classroom management, teaching writing, leading discussions, and will continue with our exploration of various approaches to the teaching of literature. We will also strive to help you make the transition from student teacher to teacher by helping you enter and engage with your professional community.
